The short version

Your stories belong to you and your family. We collect only what we need to conduct the interview, write the book, print and deliver it — and we never sell your information to anyone, ever.

What we collect

  • Account details. The gift giver's email at purchase, and the storyteller's email when they sign in with their link. No passwords — sign-in happens through a one-time email link.
  • Interview answers. The typed or spoken (transcribed) answers, photos and captions the storyteller provides, and the chapter drafts generated from them.
  • Order details. The package purchased, the delivery date, the book title, the gift note, and — for printed packages — the shipping address.
  • Basic usage data. Technical logs such as browser type and pages visited, used to keep the service working and secure.

How we use it

Interview answers and photos are used to conduct the interview and draft the book, including by AI writing tools that arrange the storyteller's own words into chapters. Order details are used to process payment, schedule the gift email, produce the gift certificate, and print and ship the book. We do not use your stories, recordings, or photos to advertise to anyone, and we do not sell or share them with data brokers.

Who can see the stories

The storyteller controls their account and can see everything in their book. The gift giver can see order and delivery status through their gift management link. Family members only gain access through the Family package's collaboration features. We and our service providers (hosting, payment processing, printing) see data only as needed to run the service.

AI processing

Autobiographrr uses AI to suggest follow-up questions and to draft chapters from the answers given. The AI works from the storyteller's own answers and photo descriptions — it does not invent biographical facts. Drafts are suggestions the storyteller can edit word by word.

Recordings

When the storyteller answers by voice, we save the original audio recording alongside the written words, because the voice itself is part of the story. Recordings are kept in private storage (provided by our hosting and database provider) and are never public. The storyteller can play them back, and can create a private "hear my voice" link for the QR code in their book. Anyone holding that link can listen, so the storyteller can replace it or switch it off at any time, and the old link stops working immediately. Recordings made on a free question link move into the book if it is gifted. Speech-to-text runs in the storyteller's browser to help write the answer. We keep recordings for as long as the account is active, and delete them with the account on request, as described below.

Data retention & deletion

Your interview, book, recordings and photos stay available while the account and book are active, so the storyteller can return and finish over time. When an account or book is deleted, access stops right away and the recordings and photos are queued for removal from storage within 30 days. Answers and recordings on a free question link that never becomes a book are automatically removed after 30 days without activity. A refund or payment dispute does not delete a book. Payment records we must keep for tax and legal reasons are kept separately. To delete an account, contact us through the site.

Security

Accounts are protected by one-time email links rather than passwords. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with our hosting provider. Access inside the company is limited to what is needed to support you.

Children

Autobiographrr is intended for adults preserving their own life stories. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes & contact

If this policy changes materially, we will notify account holders by email. Questions or deletion requests: contact us through the site and we will respond promptly.
